Public Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is normal, it’s natural and your right to do it in public is protected.

People get hungry when they’re out and about, and since babies need to eat more often than most of us, they definitely get hungry away from home.

Meeting your baby’s needs  by breastfeeding, regardless of where you are is protected under the Human Rights Code.

Your Human Right

In Ontario, everyone is legally protected from discrimination and harassment because of sex.

The protection includes pregnancy and breastfeeding. Nursing parents have the right to breastfeed or chestfeed a child in a public area.

No one should prevent another person from nursing simply because they are in a public area.

No one should ask a nursing person to “cover up”, disturb them, or ask them to move to another area that is more discreet.
